Special Needs Committee
This committee is formed by the Principal, Deputy Principal, Counsellor, Learning Assistance and other teachers as appropriate. Throughout the year each child’s learning and/or social and emotional development is monitored by this committee. Specific programs are developed and evaluated for children who have been identified as having special needs. |
Learning AssistanceThe Learning Assistance Teacher is a trained specialist appointed to the school to provide assistance and guidance to children with special needs in numeracy and literacy. Students are provided with individualised reading, writing and mathematical strategies designed to facilitate and enhance learning. Students either receive this additional support within the classroom, in a small group situation or on a one to one basis. |

The School CounsellorA school counsellor is located in the school for part of each week to help with children’s social, emotional and welfare problems and to administer diagnostic tests when appropriate. Students, parents and teachers may seek assistance from the counsellor. The counsellor may also arrange for children with special needs to be referred to outside agencies. Casework is coordinated by the Principal. The school Counsellor can be contacted through the Front Office. |
English as a Second Language (ESL)A trained teacher is allocated to support classroom teachers and students by providing a program for children who speak another language in addition to English. Children are eligible for the program if at least one parent was born overseas and the child speaks another language in the home. Students receive this additional support within the classroom, in a small group situation or on a one to one basis. |
